Spotify song to music video: full MV, social clip or Canvas?
Make visuals for your Spotify release with HeyBop.ai, an AI music video generator. Choose the right audio, distinguish Canvas and prepare each format.
“I need a video for my Spotify song” can mean three different deliverables. Decide which you need before generating anything: a complete video to watch, a social clip that sends listeners to the release, or a looping visual inside Spotify. HeyBop's AI music video generator can supply the visual material, while publishing and format checks remain part of your release workflow.
1. Choose the deliverable before choosing the length
Spotify separates Canvas requirements from its full-video upload instructions. The table distinguishes those destinations from the social content you publish elsewhere. Availability and delivery requirements should be checked in your own artist account.
| Deliverable | Purpose | Preparation |
|---|---|---|
| Full music video | Watch the song as a complete visual work | Landscape 16:9; check Spotify delivery access and specifications |
| Social promotional clip | Introduce a hook and point to the release | Choose the destination's frame; 9:16 for a vertical post |
| Canvas | A visual loop in Spotify's Now Playing view | 3–8 seconds, 9:16, 720–1080 pixels tall; prepare separately |
2. Use the release master, or verify the matched song
Your final master is the most controllable source. It is the same file you approved for release, and you can check its start, duration and ending. Spotify's Premium downloads are an offline-listening feature; they should not be treated as a standalone production file. See Spotify's offline-listening documentation.
- Copy the individual track link rather than an album, artist or playlist link, or upload the authorised master directly.
- If importing by link, read the song card and listen to the matched audio. HeyBop can use the track identity to find an available matching recording elsewhere; the card identifies that source.
- Check artist, title, vocal version, duration and chorus entrance. Similar titles can refer to a live, clean, explicit, remixed or sped-up version.
- If the match is unavailable or incorrect, switch to your authorised file before generating visuals. A match is not evidence of licensing permission.
3. Carry one visual identity across the release
Choose one recognisable element from your release artwork: a coloured umbrella, a room, a jacket or a landscape. Build the full video around an action involving it, use a strong moment for the social clip, and reserve a gentle motion for the loop. This is an editorial method, not a promise of more Spotify streams.
Release identity: a yellow umbrella beside a quiet blue lake. Full MV: a traveller carries it through changing weather and finally leaves it at the shore. Social clip: the umbrella opens as the chorus arrives. Loop concept: a close shot of ripples around its reflection, with no singing or on-screen text. The loop should remain understandable without a beginning or an ending. A story beat such as a door opening may feel unfinished when it restarts; water, fabric or a small repeated gesture is easier to review as a loop. Keep the same subject and palette across versions, then inspect each output rather than assuming shared prompts guarantee identical details.
Worked example: musical phrases and loop duration
At a steady 120 BPM, one beat lasts 0.5 seconds. In 4/4, two bars last four seconds and four bars last eight seconds. Those are calculated planning lengths, not audience data or automatic export settings. Repeating a four-second motion three times creates three loop passes in 12 seconds; use that as a simple review exercise to spot a visible jump.
Visual continuity at the loop boundary matters more than matching a particular lyric. Spotify advises avoiding singing or rapping footage for Canvas. A performance scene that works in the full MV may therefore be a poor source for the loop. Keep the expressive singing shot for the song-based edit and use another scene for the repeating visual.
4. Export, then prepare Canvas separately if needed
Make the full video or social clip in HeyBop, review the scene quality and captions, and export the destination format. For a Canvas derivative, use a separate editor to trim a suitable shot, make the loop, remove the audio and resize the picture to Spotify's current requirements. For example, 9:16 at 1080 pixels tall is 608 pixels wide when rounded to an even pixel. Do not upload a 1080×1920 MV assuming that its height already meets the Canvas specification.
This workflow does not assume a built-in Canvas preset, automatic seamless looping or direct Spotify publishing in HeyBop. Preview the processed file on a phone, then submit it through the appropriate Spotify for Artists workflow. Keep important content away from the edges.
Script generation is free (0 credits). Script generation is free (0 credits). Review your script before creating 3 storyboard images. Images and videos use credits. Credits never expire. Top-ups pay for generation; they do not unlock watermark-free or commercial exports. Top-ups alone do not unlock Professional. Standard quality for one song. Singing follows your reviewed shot plan. Extra attempts and higher quality use more credits; review the quote before generating. Choose your video plan.
5. Deliver a full video through the route available to your artist account
Spotify's current instructions describe direct uploads for eligible artists, alongside label and distributor delivery. Check whether your account has the option and whether the file meets its full-video specifications; a social teaser or Canvas is not a substitute. HeyBop supplies a video export, not distributor access, platform acceptance or a promised increase in plays.
Make the video for your Spotify release. If the immediate goal is a promotional post, start there; add the complete MV and loop when each has a clear role.
FAQ
Does a Spotify link give HeyBop the original master?+
No. Link import can identify the track and find a matching recording from an available source. Check the song card and listen; upload your authorised master when the exact version matters.
Is a Spotify Canvas the same as a music video?+
No. Canvas is a short repeating visual in Now Playing. A full MV has a song-length edit and a separate delivery workflow; a social promotion clip has another destination again.
Can I use a HeyBop vertical export as Canvas without editing?+
Check it first. This guide uses a separate editor for duration, looping, audio removal and resizing. Ordinary MV exports do not guarantee Canvas compliance.
Will a new video guarantee more Spotify streams?+
No. Treat the video as a release asset. Measure results for your own audience and campaign; this tutorial supplies no performance-lift claim.
