Pricing in generative tools is usually the last thing you find out and the first thing you regret. heybop takes the opposite view: the cost is on the button, in credits, before you click it. This guide explains where those numbers come from so you can plan a release instead of discovering it.
The unit
A credit is worth roughly one US cent. Plans include a monthly allowance (Pro: 800; Premier: 3,000) that rolls over while you stay subscribed, and top-up packs never expire. The Free plan gives you 150 trial credits once — enough for your first 12-second hook video or five songs, watermarked.
Video clips
A scene is one generated clip of six or ten seconds. Its price depends on three things: the quality tier, the clip length, and whether you are in the shot from a photo. There is no model to pick and no resolution menu — the price is per clip and it stays the same whichever engine ends up rendering it.
- Standard (the default): 60 credits per 6-second clip, 100 per 10-second clip.
- Best: 90 credits per 6-second clip, 150 per 10-second clip.
- You in the shot, from a photo: 90 / 150 on Standard, 130 / 220 on Best.
- Prices sit at roughly two-and-a-half to three-and-a-half times what the engines cost us to run, which is what keeps heybop alive without ads or data games.
So a 6-second clip on Standard is 60 credits (about 60 cents), the same clip on Best is 90, and a 10-second clip with you in it on Best is 220. The studio shows this number next to every Generate and Regenerate button.
What Standard actually does
Standard is not the cheap engine on every shot. When the storyboard is written, heybop marks the shots that carry a music video — the opener, the chorus drop, the closer, the hook that gets clipped for socials — as hero shots. Those go to the top engine. Ordinary verse shots go to a fast engine that looks great in motion and costs us less, which is what lets Standard be priced where it is. Shots with a person from a photo always go to the engine that keeps faces. Best skips the sorting and sends every shot to the top engine at the highest resolution it offers. Either way you pay the per-clip price above, never a surcharge for the engine that ran.
A whole music video
Two small pipeline fees frame the scenes: storyboarding (beat analysis, section detection and the Director AI's shot list) is 10 credits, and each final render (beat-snapped cut, audio mux, one aspect ratio) is 20 credits; the 15-second hook teaser is free, and draft previews are free. Everything else is scenes.
total = 10 (storyboard) + clips × clipPrice(tier, length, you in it?) + 20 (render)
0:30 hook, 6s clips, Standard → 10 + 5 × 60 + 20 = 330 credits ≈ $3.30
3:00 track, 6s clips, Standard → 10 + 30 × 60 + 20 = 1,830 credits ≈ $18.30
3:00 track, 6s clips, Best → 10 + 30 × 90 + 20 = 2,730 credits ≈ $27.30
3:00 track, 6s clips, Best, you in it → 10 + 30 × 130 + 20 = 3,930 credits ≈ $39.30The calculator on the pricing page runs this formula live. A common workflow: make the whole video on Standard, then switch the handful of shots you want to linger on to Best and regenerate only those. That typically lands a three-minute video between 1,900 and 2,100 credits — $19 to $21 — with the money spent where viewers actually look. Your very first video is different: it renders on Best, on us.
Songs and voices
- A full song with Google Lyria 3.5: 30 credits (up to about three minutes). MiniMax-Music3 and ElevenLabs Music are priced by length: 0.5 and 0.6 credits per second.
- A cover (re-singing a reference you own): 50 credits.
- Speech 2.8 HD and 2.6 HD: 30 credits per 1,000 characters, minimum 1 credit. Turbo tiers are 20 per 1,000.
- Voice cloning from a sample: 400 credits, one time per voice. Voice Design (a new voice from a text description): 500 credits.
- Release kit: 10 credits per extra format (9:16, 16:9, 1:1, 4:5); the hook teaser is always free.
Reservations and refunds
When you start a job, its cost is reserved — it leaves your available balance so you cannot accidentally overspend — but it is only settled when the job succeeds. If the model errors, the job times out, or the output fails moderation, the reservation is released and the ledger shows a matching refund line. You never pay for a failure, and you never have to file a ticket to get the credits back.
Bring your own MiniMax key
If you already have a MiniMax account, paste its API key in Settings. Generations are then billed to MiniMax at their rates and heybop charges only the pipeline fees (2 for storyboarding, 5 for rendering). The studio shows a “your key” badge instead of a credit cost on those buttons so it is always clear who is paying.
Keeping a release under budget
- Analyse first. Storyboarding is 10 credits and tells you how many scenes the track needs before you commit to any of them.
- Start on Standard. Its hero shots already run on the top engine, and it is a third cheaper than Best across the whole video.
- Regenerate scenes, not videos. Fixing one shot costs one shot.
- Upgrade selectively. Switch to Best only where the camera lingers — the intro, the chorus drop, the final shot.
- Use Mock mode to learn the interface. It costs nothing and every feature works.
